Yalda is the last night of autumn and the longest night during the whole year.
People spend the entire night with their relatives and special foods and fruits like watermelon and nuts are the constant nutrients of this night and also having divinations for each other (mostly from the hafez book) is one of the actual traditions of this night .

The philosophy of this night is that the people gather together to spend the whole night and end it together to dominate the darkness of the nights of the winter ahead and its related to the old history of Iran when the people stayed awake until dawn.
